Garfield and Prilep become sister cities

The Macedonians in the United States of America markedĀ theĀ important holiday in Macedonia's history "Macedonian Independence Day" with a line of events.

At the soccer field, Twntieth Century Field, in Garfield, New Jersey, the second tradicional Macedonian Festival, organized by the Macedonian Community of New Jersey, took place.

The festival was also a good opportunity to present the Macedonian culture, heritage, customs, and traditional dances and music. During the festival, bearing in mind the fact that a great many residents of Garfield are originaly from Prilep, Garfield and Prilep were officialy proclamed sister cities in accordance with the iniative lunched on 22 July this year.

The ceremony was also attended municipial and business delegation from Prilep headed by mayor Marjan Risteski, which also included managers of 15 well performing companies from Prilep, whose slogan was " Invest in Rilep, invest in Macedonia".

The guests from Macedonia also met with Garfield mayor Frank Calandriello. Apart from the delegation from Prilep, the Festival was also attended by the delegation of the Emigration Agency, headed by director Vasil Naumov, as well as by the Macedonian Ambassador to the USA, Zoran Jolevski, the honorary consul to New Jersey, Slavko Madzarov, and representatives of the United Macedonian Diaspora.
